Flying Sheep !!

photo
Climb every mountain! Alice and her sheep at Christchurch Airport in New Zealand.
The knitted sheep from our Travelling Advent were scattered far and wide in December – Henley, Shiplake, Remenham, Upper  Basildon and New Zealand!  The Pegley family spent Christmas  in New Zealand, with lots of snow, and the nativity sheep went with them.   There was no internet connection in the  place where they stayed, so here is Alice with her sheep in front of a picture at Christ Church Airport.  Sightings have been reported in Cornwall too!

Instant Nativity

We  had a great time getting ready for Christmas at Messy Church on December 13th.  We made presents for Mum (and Dad) (or Grandma and Granddad), table decorations, angels, iced our own cakes – busy busy busy!
But Christmas is all about Jesus so we dressed up (grown-ups too) for our part in the Instant Nativity which Glyn led in church.  Of course he got it wrong – was the angel who spoke to Mary really called Gilbert?  Was Jesus really born in Birmingham?   This is where we began the story – the photos in the gallery below show where we ended up!  But don’t forget you are very welcome to come back on Sunday 22nd at 10.30am and be part of our nativity on that day too. We have your costumes, we just need you to fill ’em!    There is also a Carol Service for  children at 4.00pm on Christmas Eve, and All-age Worship  at 10.30am Christmas Morning. But whether you are at home, away, or at church have a lovely Christmas!

Roofhole! November 2013

This time we looked at Mark 2:1-2 (story here, video here ) – it’s a story about what friendship means, and how forgiveness and healing sometimes go together.  We thought about how Jesus burst onto the world just like this – and we had some fireworks in church! It was good to welcome some more friends from Tilehurst who are thinking of launching their own Messy Church.  Here are some pictures from the session:

October 2013

This month we looked at the story of Jesus calling the first disciples by the sea of Galilee – a seriously fishy business.   You can find the story here (text)  or here (video).  Lots of the children loved the story of The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister, which we used as part of the worship. The Spaghetti-Paintings were worthy of the Tate Modern ……
It was good to be joined by our friends from Tilehurst URC – we could not have done it without them this time!

September 2013 – “Wedding of the year”

September’s Messy Church was all about the wedding at Cana – you can find the story here. It is a story about how God loves to see us happy in our families.  For a  video,  try here.
We spent most of the session getting ready for the wedding – the confetti factory in particular was going  at full blast; elsewhere the guests got dressed and the photographer took pictures, while others prepared the wedding cakes.  Then during the worship Messy Bessy and Tidy Ted helped demonstrate how a wedding works. below  are some snaps of the bride and her guests …..
